7 Ways Moms Can Make Extra Money from Home without Missing a Moment

Being a mom is a full-time job—and the most important one. But that doesn’t mean you have to give up your financial goals or dreams of earning extra income. Whether you want to contribute to the family budget, save for a special vacation, or simply have a little something for yourself, there are ways to make money from home that don’t compromise your time with your kids.

Here are 7 practical, flexible, and family-friendly ways moms can make extra money from home—without missing those precious moments:
1. Freelance work. Are you a skilled writer, graphic artist, illustrator, photographer, videographer, etc.? As a writer you can create ad copy, blog copy, articles for local magazines, social media posts, etc. As an artist you can illustrate children’s books, create websites, create book covers, and more. As a photographer you can sell images of things you shoot in your everyday life and sell this as stock images for people to use on their websites, blogs, ads, book covers, and social media pages. And there are thousands of independent authors like myself who occasionally need book covers designed. If you have an eye for design and a computer, you can make quite a chunk of change for your talents.

2. Sell handmade or customized products. If you’re competent with a Cricut machine, a heat press machine, or even a sewing machine, you could design customized jewelry, t-shirts, keychains, signs, clothing, and much more. If you have seamstress skills, you can also do repairs and alterations for people from your home. You can even set up an account with your local shipping companies to have them pick up and ship your products.

3. Virtual Assistant. If you’re tech savvy and a good time manager, you can contact social media influencers to see if they need a VA. Virtual Assistants handle tedious tasks that others don’t have time or desire to do, such as typing documents, creating presentations, posting or responding on social media for their account, creating and scheduling blog posts, setting up interviews with podcasters or other media personalities, and more. If you’re a great conversationalist or good with talking on the phone, you might be a great VA.

4. Online Educator. If you have a special education in a certain field, you can teach your skills to others virtually. Examples would be musical talents, Foreign Languages, Sign Language, DIY How-to’s, to’s, etc. Truly, anything that can be taught on a video is an option. People pay to learn things, and especially to learn things quickly and simply.

5. Social Media Manager. Some VAs handle certain aspects of social media for their clients, but Social Media Managers handle much more. They often create, schedule, post, and comment on multiple social accounts each day. They also might handle scheduling all media interviews and responding to emails. I’ve hired a few VAs in my career and many of them get paid very well. Professionals are willing to pay to avoid painful, tedious tasks that consume time they could be using to create more offers to sell.

6. Create digital products and sell them online. This can include but is not limited to planners, calendars, templates, schedules, invitations, greeting cards, e-books, and more.

7. Affiliate Marketing. This is becoming a broad topic, especially in the social media world. There are different aspects of affiliate marketing and various ways to participate. The work I do is similar to affiliate marketing but with repeat income rather than one-time pay. Affiliate marketing is when you promote products and earn commissions when people buy the products you recommend. This can be done through a blog, website, e-mail list, or social media. Some companies send you free products to review. Others require you to pay for the items you review. It takes time to build a following that trusts your recommendations, but it can be very lucrative with a bit of intention.
